Srinagar: Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have recovered the remains of a suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militant along with a sophisticated M4 rifle from the remote Seoj Dhar area of Doda district. The discovery has intensified a major security probe as intelligence agencies investigate possible terror links, foreign-origin weapon channels and militant activity in the strategically important Chenab Valley region.
The recovery was made during a search operation in the upper reaches of Doda, where security forces maintained heightened surveillance following intelligence inputs about possible movement of armed militants. The joint operation involved the Special Operations Group (SOG) Doda, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The recovered weapon, believed to be a night-enabled M4 rifle, has emerged as a crucial piece of evidence for investigators. The security operation began after locals reported suspicious remains and a rifle lying in the Divshetar area of Seoj Dhar. During the search operation, forces recovered the remains of a suspected JeM militant along with an advanced M4 carbine. The recovered material has been taken into custody for forensic analysis and intelligence assessment.
Officials are investigating whether the militant was linked to any recent counter-terror operation in the region or if the recovery is connected to a larger militant network operating in the Chenab Valley. Meanwhile, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) conducted separate search operations at multiple locations in Jammu and Kashmir as part of another investigation. The searches were carried out in Poonch and Udhampur districts in connection with a case involving alleged radicalisation activities and the spread of secessionist narratives through online and offline platforms.
Investigators are examining possible communication links between individuals under scrutiny and suspicious contacts located across the Line of Control (LoC) and border areas. The searches were conducted to collect and verify evidence related to the ongoing investigation.
The Doda recovery highlights the continuing challenge for security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir, where efforts are underway to prevent militant groups from rebuilding their networks. Modern counter-terror operations are no longer limited to armed encounters but also focus on disrupting funding channels, communication networks, recruitment systems and logistical support structures.
