New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has emphasized that it is important for children who have completed seven years of age but have not yet updated biometric information in their Aadhaar card. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology shared this information today on Tuesday, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
The ministry said in a press release that this is a pre-determined process under the rules of Aadhaar. Parents or guardians can get their child's Aadhaar details updated by visiting any Aadhaar Seva Kendra or any designated Aadhaar center.
The release said that when a child is less than five years old, only details like photo, name, date of birth, gender and address are filled in Aadhaar. Fingerprints and eye scans (iris) are not taken at that age due to the maturity of the child. But as soon as the child turns five, he has to update his Aadhaar with his finger, eye scan and photo. This is called the first biometric update. If this update is done between five and seven years, it is completely free. After seven years, the update is done at a fee of only Rs 100.
If the mandatory biometric update is not done on time, the child's Aadhaar number can be deactivated. Regular and correct biometric data ensures many facilities for the child - such as school admission, exam registration, scholarship, government direct benefit transfer (DBT) etc.
Therefore, UIDAI has urged parents to update their children's Aadhaar details on priority. UIDAI is reminding parents to update their children's Aadhaar biometrics by sending SMS on mobile numbers.
