Journey from IAS Officer to Union Minister
The life of 73-year-old Mr Singh has been remarkably significant in both the realms of administration and politics. He began his career as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and subsequently rose to hold top-ranking positions, such as that of the country's Home Secretary. In 2014, he took voluntary retirement to enter politics and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Subsequently, he served as the Union Minister of Power in the Modi government, holding this portfolio for seven years.
Revelation on ‘The Candid Talk’
During his interview to Mr Aakash the former IAS officer elaborately discussed about his political journey and future plans.
He promised that his party would comprise individuals who were honest, well-educated, and free from caste politics. He said: "I believe Bihar is in need of a fresh mindset and a new brand of politics."
Investigative journalist Abhishek Upadhyay has also reacted to Mr Singh's statement. Sharing a video on his X handle, he said : "RK Singh to form a new party? News of this interview with Manoj Tibrewal Aakash is everywhere."
Suspension from BJP
In the podcast, Mr Singh claimed that he was suspended from the BJP. According to him, he always expressed his views openly, a stance that often placed him in an uncomfortable position within the party. He noted that even during his tenure as a Member of Parliament (MP), he consistently articulated his opinions with clarity. He further remarked, "The fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi retained me as the Minister of Power for seven years-despite my outspoken nature was a significant gesture."
Mr Singh said the PMO never interfered in the affairs of his ministry and allowed into work with full autonomy. It was precisely this freedom that enabled him to take several pivotal decisions, he claimed.
He made it clear that he did not view his suspension as 'punishment' and refused to dwell more on the matter.
Bihar Politics
Mr Singh's conversation with Mr Akash on his relationship with former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the Janata Dal (United) has intensified discussions among the political circles.
