New Delhi: Giving a befitting reply to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi's allegation of Maharashtra assembly elections being 'fixed', the Election Commission on Sunday said that the attempt to defame the election system which is praised by the whole world is ridiculous and an insult to the political workers of one's own party.

Rahul Gandhi had, in his article in a newspaper on Saturday, called the Maharashtra assembly elections 'fixed' and sought answers from the Commission on his questions, to which the Election Commission today said, "All Indian elections are conducted as per the law.

Ridiculous Allegations

The scale and accuracy with which elections are conducted in India is widely praised all over the world. After any adverse verdict given by the voters, trying to defame the Election Commission by saying that it was pre-determined is absolutely ridiculous."

The Commission also said that the entire country knows that every electoral process including preparation of electoral rolls, polling and counting of votes etc. is carried out by government employees from polling booth to constituency level in the presence of formally authorized representatives deployed by political parties and candidates.

Misinformation Spread

The Commission said that any misinformation spread by anyone is not only an affront to the law but also an insult to thousands of representatives appointed by their own political party. Such an attempt also demoralizes lakhs of election officials who work tirelessly and transparently during elections.

In its reply to Rahul Gandhi, the Commission also said that the Election Commission had already replied to the questions raised earlier in this regard to the Congress on 24th December last year. The Commission had put forth all these facts in its reply which are also available on the Commission's website. It appears that these facts are being ignored while raising such issues again and again.

The Election Commission has denied Rahul Gandhi's every question regarding election being 'fixed' by giving point-by-point answers and has said that all the allegations made are baseless.

Rahul Gandhi On X

Rahul Gandhi tagging an article written by himself, titled 'Match-fixing Maharashtra', in an English Daily, the former Congress President on X said, "How to steal an election? Maharashtra assembly elections in 2024 were a blueprint for rigging democracy".

Step By Step

Giving "step by step" account of his claim, Gandhi said, "First rig the panel for appointing the Election Commission then add fake voters to the roll, inflate voter turnout and target the bogus voting exactly where BJP needs to win and then hide the evidence".
