AIP leader Naseer Rather’s statement sparks fresh debate in Jammu Kashmir
Srinagar: Awami Itihad Party (AIP) leader Naseer Rather has triggered a fresh political debate in Jammu and Kashmir after asserting that Engineer Rashid’s ideology will continue to remain relevant despite his imprisonment or any future changes within his political organisation. His remarks have brought renewed attention to the ongoing discussions around regional politics, public concerns and governance issues in the Union Territory.
Rather said the influence of Engineer Rashid’s political thinking does not depend on his presence outside prison or the survival of his party structure. According to him, the issues connected with Rashid’s politics and the concerns raised by his supporters would continue to remain part of Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape.

He said citizens need responsible governance, better public services and accountability from political representatives instead of what he described as political drama and symbolic campaigns.
According to Rather, issues affecting common people should remain at the centre of political discussions, including development, infrastructure, employment opportunities and delivery of essential services.
Engineer Rashid, founder of the Awami Itihad Party and former Lok Sabha member from Baramulla, has remained a significant figure in Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape.
His supporters have projected him as a leader who raises regional concerns and challenges established political narratives, while opponents have frequently criticised his political positions and approach.
