Ahmedabad: The death of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in the Ahmedabad plane crash has been confirmed. Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi said that his DNA test report has matched, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

The government is coordinating with his famil and his mortal remains will be handed over to his family on the evening of Sunday, June 15.  So far the mortal reamins of 14 people have been handed over to the relatives and 32 vicitims have been identified through DNA matching.

Vijay Rupani was aboard Air India flight AI171, which crashed in Ahmedabad minutes after taking off for London.  There were a total of 242 people on board the plane, of whom 241 died, while only one person survived the accident. This tragic accident has shaken the entire country.

Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi expressed grief over the incident and said, "He was one of our leaders who dedicated his life to the service of Gujarat. His DNA has been confirmed at 11:10 am today."

Earlier, hospital superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi said that the process of handing over the bodies of the deceased to their families is going on fast and the state government is providing all possible assistance to the affected families.

He also informed that as soon as the news of the accident was received, a team of more than 250 doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and volunteers in the hospital immediately took up the responsibility of relief and treatment.

The injured were given timely treatment, and DNA matching is being done with the help of forensic experts to identify the dead.  Investigators have recovered the black box from the rooftop of medical college hostel, where the plane had crashed.

The government has formed a high-level committee to investigate the incident very seriously. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has shared its information on its official social media handle (x).

This committee will work to identify the major causes of the aircraft accident. It will also do a thorough review of the existing standard operating process (SOP) and guidelines.
