India has accused Pakistan of spreading fake narratives to hide alleged human rights abuses in PoJK, where violent clashes between protesters and security forces have intensified in recent days.

New Delhi: India on Tuesday accused Pakistan of attempting to divert global attention from alleged human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) by spreading misinformation and fake narratives.

Responding to questions regarding the unrest in PoJK, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi had observed a pattern of “fake news and videos” emerging from Pakistan to shift focus away from internal issues and allegations of police brutality.

Deadly Clashes Reported in Rawalkot

Tensions have escalated in Rawalkot and nearby areas after violent clashes reportedly broke out between protesters and Pakistani security forces. The unrest followed action taken against the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), a protest group campaigning against inflation, electricity tariffs, and political representation policies in the region.

According to reports, multiple people, including protesters and security personnel, were killed during confrontations. Several others were reportedly injured amid the crackdown.

India Raises Human Rights Concerns

India claimed the developments reflected serious concerns regarding the treatment of civilians in PoJK. The MEA alleged that reports from the region pointed to severe police action and suppression of dissent.

New Delhi also accused Pakistan of attempting to conceal governance failures and public dissatisfaction in the region by focusing on external narratives instead of addressing local grievances.

International Attention on PoJK

The violence has also drawn reactions abroad, with members of the Kashmiri diaspora reportedly staging protests outside the Pakistani Consulate in London. Reports also suggested that some UK lawmakers raised concerns regarding the handling of protests and civilian deaths in the region.

India has repeatedly maintained that unrest in PoJK highlights dissatisfaction with Pakistan’s administration and governance model in the territory.
