R.K. Singh begins new journey in law (Image Source: Internet)
New Delhi: Former Union Minister R. K. Singh, who possesses extensive experience in the country's politics and administration, has now embarked on a new phase of his career, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
He announced on the social media platform X that he will now serve as an Advocate in the Supreme Court of India. In his post, he wrote: “I have become a member of the Supreme Court Bar. I will fight for preserving our democracy and citizen’s rights.”
R. K. Singh is a 1975-batch IAS officer who served in pivotal roles—such as the Union Home Secretary—during the UPA government's tenure. While holding this position from 2011 to 2013, he handled several major and sensitive matters, including decisions regarding the execution of Ajmal Kasab (convicted for the 26/11 attacks) and Afzal Guru (convicted for the Parliament attack).

Prior to this, he also held significant positions such as the Secretary of the Department of Defence Production and Principal Secretary in Bihar.
In 2013, he joined the BJP, and in 2014, he entered Parliament after winning the election from the Arrah Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar. Subsequently, he was re-elected as a Member of Parliament in 2019.
In Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, he shouldered key responsibilities as the Minister of Power and the Minister of New and Renewable Energy.
Following his defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Arrah seat, his rift with the party leadership came out into the open. He leveled serious allegations against the Bihar government and certain leaders, including accusations regarding an alleged scam linked to a major power project.
He had notably alleged a ₹62,000-crore corruption scandal involving power projects and urged voters to reject candidates with criminal backgrounds, including those from his own alliance.
Consequently, in 2025, the Bihar BJP suspended him for six years on charges of "anti-party activities." Shortly thereafter, on November 15, 2025, he resigned from the primary membership of the party.
After spending decades in politics and administration, R. K. Singh now has stepped into the legal arena. His decision to commence legal practice at the Supreme Court is not merely a career transition, but also conveys a significant message.
