New Delhi: After serving nearly four years in the country’s top military post, Gen Anil Chauhan on Saturday concluded his tenure as India’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), describing the experience as “very satisfying.”

Focus on Tri-Services Coordination

During his tenure, Gen Chauhan focused heavily on improving coordination and operational synergy among the Army, Navy, and Air Force. He played a key role in advancing India’s military modernisation efforts and pushed forward the long-discussed theatre command system aimed at integrating the three armed services under unified operational structures.

Military officials said his tenure was marked by efforts to strengthen joint planning, defence preparedness, and strategic coordination in response to evolving regional security challenges.

Key Role in Strategic Operations

Gen Chauhan also played an important role in planning and implementing Operation Sindoor alongside the chiefs of the three armed forces. Before becoming CDS, he had served in several senior military positions, including as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command.

He was also the Director General of Military Operations during the 2019 Balakot airstrike conducted after the Pulwama terror attack. Officials have previously acknowledged his contribution in operational planning related to the strike.
