New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic sleeper bus fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, where nine passengers lost their lives. The Prime Minister has announced financial assistance for the families of those who died and for passengers injured in the incident.
As per the announcement, the families of each deceased victim will receive Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). The injured passengers will be provided Rs 50,000 each as assistance.
PM Modi conveyed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the devastating fire. He also prayed for the quick recovery of those injured in the incident.
The accident took place late Wednesday night when a sleeper bus travelling from Delhi towards Mahoba caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway near Dayanatpur village in Greater Noida. The flames spread rapidly through the bus, leaving several passengers trapped inside.
The bus was carrying around 35 passengers when the fire broke out. While many passengers managed to escape by breaking windows and jumping out of the vehicle, nine people died in the tragedy.
Emergency teams, including police and fire personnel, reached the spot and carried out rescue operations. Authorities have started an investigation to determine the exact reason behind the fire.
Officials are examining all possible causes behind the blaze. The incident has also raised concerns over safety standards of passenger buses and the monitoring of commercial vehicles operating on highways.
The Greater Noida bus fire has once again highlighted the need for strict safety checks to prevent such tragedies in the future.
