Gujarat police confirm bomb threat to CMO and secretariat as hoax

Police have registered an FIR against unknown persons under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act.

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Chief Minister Office and the State Secretariat have received bomb threats. This was informed by the Gujarat Police this morning. Police said the threat was a hoax. The entire matter is being investigated.

According to the Gujarat Police, a message was received on the official email of the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) on July 17. It also threatened to blow up the Gujarat Secretariat, including the CMO. The police, after receiving information, sprang up in action.

Bomb Squad Deployed

Gandhinagar Deputy Superintendent of Police Divya Prakash Gohil said, "The bomb squad has been deployed.

The Gandhi Nagar police and the Chief Minister's security team were immediately alerted. The entire CM office was thoroughly checked. The bomb squad was called to the spot. After investigation, the information was found to be false.

According to the Gujarat Police, no suspicious object was found in the entire premises. Police have registered an FIR against unknown persons under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act.

Earlier Bomb Threats

This is not the first time that a bomb threat has been issued in Gujarat. Earlier, several schools, lower courts and the Gujarat High Court have also received bomb threats. All the threats were false. Police are investigating all the incidents.

Another Bomb Threat In Coimbatore

Earlier in first week of July, panic gripped the Coimbatore Collector’s office when a special team from the Bomb Disposal Squad conducted a thorough search operation across 30 departments, including the garden area and the elevators.

The operation was launched after a letter was received, purportedly written by senior advocate Muthuswamy and addressed from the Tenkasi Munsif Court. In the letter, the sender claimed to have knowledge of a major bomb plot targeting the Coimbatore Collector’s office and mentioned that the advocate’s life was also in danger.

Bomb Threat In Agra

The Agra Airport Authority received a bomb threat on mail, it said that not only Agra but many other airports in the country would be targeted. The mail also mentioned that powerful explosives have been hidden in backpacks around the airport premises and warned to vacate the building immediately.
