New Delhi: Hanuman Jayanti 2026 is being celebrated across India today with great devotion. Observed on the full moon day (Purnima) of the month of Chaitra, this festival is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the embodiment of strength, devotion, and loyalty. Devotees across the country offer prayers seeking peace, happiness, and protection. Traditionally, Lord Hanuman is revered as a Bal Brahmachari-an eternal celibate who never entered into marriage.

However, there is one remarkable temple in India where Lord Hanuman is worshipped alongside his wife, Suvarchala-a rare and unique tradition that draws devotees from far and wide.

The Unique Shri Suvarchala Sahita Hanuman Temple

The Shri Suvarchala Sahita Hanuman Temple is located in Yellandu village in the Khammam district of Telangana. Here, Goddess Suvarchala is worshipped alongside Lord Hanuman, making it the only temple in India with this distinct tradition. Built in 2006, the temple has steadily grown in popularity, attracting devotees who come to witness its singular customs.

Hanuman Jayanti 2026: Why Hanuman Jayanti is the Most Powerful Day for Devotees

Every year, on the Shukla Dashami (tenth day of the waxing moon) in the month of Jyeshtha, the temple celebrates the wedding of Lord Hanuman and Goddess Suvarchala with grandeur, drawing large crowds. While Hanuman is widely known as a celibate throughout North India, the tradition upheld at this temple is both intriguing and spiritually significant.

The Legend of Goddess Suvarchala

According to local belief, Lord Hanuman accepted Lord Surya (the Sun God) as his guru and sought knowledge under him. Lord Surya was a master of nine distinct disciplines (Vidyas), and Hanuman aspired to learn all of them. He successfully mastered five disciplines under Surya’s guidance. However, the remaining four could only be taught to someone living the life of a householder-a challenge for Hanuman, who had taken a vow of celibacy.

Married to His Guru’s Daughter

To solve this, Lord Surya proposed a unique solution: Hanuman could marry his daughter, Suvarchala, and still maintain his vow of celibacy. Initially hesitant, Hanuman agreed after understanding that marriage would not conflict with his Brahmachari lifestyle. Thus, his marriage to Goddess Suvarchala was solemnized, allowing him to acquire the full spectrum of knowledge under his guru.

This extraordinary legend forms the spiritual foundation of the Shri Suvarchala Sahita Hanuman Temple. Devotees continue to visit in large numbers, inspired by this rare tale of devotion, wisdom, and divine guidance.
