Trump Hints at Future Meeting With Khamenei (Image Internet)
Washington: US President Donald Trump has said he may meet Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the future, adding that he has not yet had the opportunity to do so. His remarks come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and renewed debate over Iran’s nuclear programme.
Trump also claimed that the Iran has agreed not to develop nuclear weapons, though he suggested the situation could change. “They can change their mind, but that was the big thing,” he said, without offering further details.
In comments referring to regional tensions, Trump suggested he played a central role in shaping US policy in the Middle East. He reiterated his opposition to Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, arguing that it would have serious consequences for Israel’s security.
Responding to media reports about his relationship with Israeli leadership, Trump also addressed claims regarding a reported heated exchange with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He confirmed he had expressed frustration, saying he intervened to limit escalating regional conflicts.
Earlier, Trump rejected media reports claiming that diplomatic communication between Washington and Tehran had broken down. Writing on Truth Social, he insisted that discussions between the two countries have continued consistently over recent days.
He stated that talks had taken place “four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago, and today,” dismissing suggestions of a diplomatic freeze.
While acknowledging uncertainty in the negotiation process, Trump renewed pressure on Iran to reach a formal agreement with the United States. He said discussions have been moving at a rapid pace despite regional instability.
Trump reiterated that Iran must make a decision regarding its nuclear programme, stating that prolonged standoffs cannot continue indefinitely.
The US President’s remarks come amid conflicting reports from Iran. Iranian media outlets have suggested that indirect talks may have been paused due to escalating military tensions involving Israel in the broader Middle East region.
The differing narratives highlight ongoing uncertainty surrounding the status of US-Iran diplomatic engagement, even as both sides signal that communication channels remain active.
