Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi talks to media
New Delhi: A day after the Supreme Court pulled up Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his alleged remarks on the Army, his sister and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra came forward to his defence on Tuesday and said that her brother holds the Army in the highest respect, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
While talking to media outside the Parliament, Priyanka said, "...They do not decide who a true Indian is. Rahul Gandhi has always respected the army and our soldiers....He holds army in highest respect."
"It is the responsibility of LoP to question the government, and that is what he does. The government does not like it, and they do not want to answer him; that is why they resort to all these tactics,” added Priyanka.
Rahul Gandhi made statements on the clash between the Indian and Chinese armies on December 9, 2022, and these comments were brought up in the Supreme Court. The court had issued a warrant related to this. Rahul Gandhi also filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding this matter.
The Supreme Court questioned Rahul Gandhi sharply during the hearing. They asked, "Why are you posting all this on social media? " The court questioned him about how he knew that China had occupied Indian land, and why he made such a statement without any proof. The court also told him, "If you are a true Indian, don't say such things. "The court further asked Rahul to raise such issues in Parliament and wanted to know why he chooses to talk about them on social media.
While the BJP and Congress were blaming each other, the BJP criticized Rahul Gandhi over the issue, saying he has promised to "strengthen China. " In reply, the Congress said patriotic Indians have been asking the government for answers since the Galwan Valley incident, but the government is keeping the truth hidden using the "DDLJ policy" — which stands for deny, distract, lie, and justify.
Rahul Gandhi has never insulted the armed forces. They were just asking the government for information on the steps taken after our soldiers were killed by China in Galwan. The BJP accused Rahul of supporting China and called his stance anti-national. BJP leaders made these claims based on Rahul's past statements.
