Himachal: Dr Rajiv Bindal elected as state BJP president for third time
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh BJP President Dr Rajiv Bindal was elected unopposed for the post for the third consecutive time on Tuesday.
On Monday, he was the only one to file nomination for the post.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced his unopposed victory on Tuesday.
Rajiv Bindal was an MLA five times from 2002 to 2022.
He won the assembly elections three times from Solan and twice from Nahan. He was also the Health Minister in Prem Kumar Dhumal's government from 2007 to 2012.
On January 10, 2018, he was unanimously elected Speaker of the 13th Legislative Assembly and held the post till January 2020. Earlier also, he had been the state president of BJP for some time and in April 2023, he was again given this responsibility.
Nominations were also filed for eight members of the National Council on Monday. Former minister Govind Thakur and party general secretaries Bihari Lal Sharma, Trilok Kapoor, Pawan Kajal, Rashmi Dhar Sood, Payal Vaidya, Rajiv Saizal and Sanjeev Katwal were elected as members of the National Council.
Apart from this, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, former Union minister Anurag Thakur, Lok Sabha MPs Suresh Kashyap, Kangana Ranaut and Rajiv Bhardwaj, as well as Rajya Sabha MPs Indu Goswami, Sikander Kumar and Harsh Mahajan were elected as ex-officio members of the National Council.
Nominations were also filed for eight members of the National Council on Monday.
