New Delhi: The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting, chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved defense deals worth about ₹2.38 lakh crore to strengthen the Indian Army. This is called “Acceptance of Necessity (AoN)," that is, the need for these weapons and systems has been officially accepted, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

What will the army get?

Many modern and powerful systems have been approved for the Indian Army:

  • Air Defense Tracked System
  • Anti-Tank (Armor Piercing) Ammunition
  • high-capacity radio system
  • Dhanush cannon system
  • Advanced Surveillance System

Their purpose is to provide better security during war, stronger communication, the ability to strike at long distances, and to increase the ability to keep an eye on the enemy.

The Air Force gets major upgrades

The Indian Air Force will also benefit greatly from this decision:

  • new medium transport aircraft
  • Purchase of S-400 missile system
  • drone-based strike aircraft
  • Su-30 engine upgrade

The new aircraft will replace the aging AN-32 and IL-76 aircraft. This will increase the ability to transport soldiers and goods faster. The S-400 system will further strengthen the country's air security.

The Coast Guard also strengthened

The Indian Coast Guard will also get new high-speed air cushion vehicles (hovercraft). These will be used in coastal security, surveillance, rescue operations, and logistics support.

Why is this decision important?

This decision is special because it will simultaneously increase the strength of all three forces of India—land, water, and air.

  • The ability to keep an eye on the enemy will increase.
  • Reactions will be faster in times of war.
  • The country's borders will become more secure.

Defense purchases at record level

So far, 55 proposals have been approved in the financial year 2025-26, with a total value of ₹6.73 lakh crore. Apart from this, 503 contracts worth ₹2.28 lakh crore have been signed. This is considered to be the biggest defense procurement campaign ever.

India is rapidly modernizing its military forces. This step will not only strengthen the security of the country but will also improve preparedness to deal with any threat in the future.
