Human Rights Activist Tasleema Akhter Calls for Global Attention (Img: Dynamite News)
Srinagar: Human rights activist and Chairperson of the Association of Terror Victims in Kashmir (ATVK) Tasleema Akhter has appealed to the international community, the United Nations and global human rights organisations to focus on humanitarian concerns in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Akhter said that the safety, dignity and rights of civilians affected by conflict must remain a priority for the global community.

Akhter stressed that humanitarian issues should be addressed beyond political differences, stating that every individual is entitled to basic human rights regardless of geographical boundaries.

She said civilians living in conflict-affected regions require protection, justice and an opportunity to live in peace. According to her, addressing humanitarian concerns through transparency, accountability and impartial mechanisms is essential for long-term peace and stability.
Expressing concern over reports regarding difficulties faced by civilians in PoJK, Akhter urged international institutions to encourage independent and neutral monitoring of the situation in accordance with global human rights standards.
She emphasised that proper assessment and accountability mechanisms can help protect civilian interests and ensure that affected communities receive attention.
Akhter reiterated that the Association of Terror Victims in Kashmir remains committed to supporting victims of violence through peaceful and democratic means. She said the organisation will continue raising awareness about human rights protection, non-violence and the need to amplify the voices of affected families.
She also appealed to governments, humanitarian organisations and civil society groups worldwide to work collectively towards protecting innocent lives and promoting peace.
Calling humanitarian protection a shared responsibility, Akhter said that ignoring civilian suffering can worsen hardships faced by affected communities.
She urged international organisations and human rights defenders to work towards creating an environment where justice, dignity and peace take precedence over violence and fear.
