New Delhi: The monsoon system has intensified across several parts of India, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a major weather warning. Several states are likely to witness heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds in the coming hours.
According to the weather department, strong winds with speeds reaching up to 70-80 km/h may hit many regions. The combination of heavy rain and powerful winds could impact normal life, transportation and agricultural activities.
Mountain regions including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir remain vulnerable due to continuous rainfall. Authorities have warned of possible landslides and advised residents to remain cautious.
The weather system is also expected to affect northern and eastern India. States including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal may experience intense rainfall, rising river levels and thunderstorms.
Several states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh are under weather watch. Delhi may witness strong winds during the evening, while parts of UP and Bihar could experience lightning and storm activity.
Continuous rainfall and cooler winds may bring a fall of 2-4 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures. However, officials have advised people to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during storms and stay away from trees and electric poles.
