New Delhi: As the southwest monsoon enters its withdrawal phase, several parts of India are likely to continue witnessing rain activity. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across parts of South, East and Central India in the coming days.
According to IMD, a low-pressure area developing over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea is expected to intensify rainfall activity across multiple regions. Some areas may also experience strong winds with speeds reaching up to 60 kmph.
The weather department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in north coastal Andhra Pradesh from September 22 to 24. Southern Odisha is likely to receive intense showers between September 22 and 25, while Chhattisgarh and Telangana may witness heavy rainfall from September 23 to 25.
Vidarbha is also expected to receive significant rainfall on September 24 and 25. IMD has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in parts of southern Chhattisgarh on September 24.
In northwestern India, weather conditions are expected to remain largely stable. Delhi is unlikely to receive rainfall on September 21, while some parts of Rajasthan may witness light rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
Hill states, however, may experience scattered showers. Rainfall is likely in parts of Uttarakhand, including Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Nainital. Jammu and Kashmir districts such as Ramban, Rajouri, Reasi and Kathua may also receive light rainfall.
The IMD has predicted widespread rainfall activity in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim between September 21 and 26. Bihar is expected to witness rainfall across several areas during this period.
In southern India, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Rayalaseema are likely to receive heavy showers. Kerala and parts of Karnataka may also experience intense rainfall on specific dates.
The weather department has advised residents to stay updated with local weather alerts, especially in areas vulnerable to thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.
Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities according to local forecasts, while people travelling in hilly regions should check weather and road conditions before starting their journey. Local district-level warnings issued by IMD should be followed for safety.
