Indian Navy to commission anti-submarine Warship ‘Mahe’ on 24 November

New Delhi: The anti-submarine warfare warship 'Mahe' will be inducted into the Indian Navy on November 24. It is a shallow-water craft, meaning it is designed for shallow waters such as coastal waters or estuaries, rather than oceanic waters. It is equipped with torpedoes, multi-role anti-submarine missiles, and advanced radar and sonar, officials said on Sunday. Cochin Shipyard Limited is building anti-submarine warfare warships, the first of which, named Mahe, is named after the historic port city of Mahe in Puducherry and a symbol of India's rich maritime heritage. A Navy spokesperson said, "With its strength, stealth, and maneuverability, the ship is designed to hunt submarines, conduct coastal patrols, and protect India's vital sea lanes." The first Mahe-class ship, equipped with torpedoes and anti-submarine missiles, was commissioned into the Navy on 23 October. A Navy spokesperson said that with the commissioning of 'Mahe' at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard on November 24, the Navy will reach another milestone in its indigenous shipbuilding journey. "Mahe" represents cutting-edge technology in naval ship design and construction as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Despite its small size, the ship is powerful and embodies speed and precision, all of which are crucial for maintaining dominance in coastal areas," he said.
