J&K Blast: Home Ministry says probe of Nowgam explosion underway; Rules out terror angle

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday issued a statement on the explosion at Nowgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir, in which nine people were killed and while 27 policemen, two revenue officials, and three civilians were injured. The statement said the Friday late-night blast at Nowgam police station in Srinagar was an 'accident' which occurred during the handling of explosive material recovered in a terror-module investigation. However the Home Ministry has ruled out any terror angle of the blast. Home Ministry Joint Secretary (J&K Division) Prashant Lokhande said that the blast has caused massive damage to the police station building and some surrounding structures. The cause of the accident is being investigated. Lokhande urged the people to refrain from speculation. “Yesterday, on 14th November at 11:20 PM, in an unfortunate accidental incident, a massive explosion took place inside the Nowgam Police Station in Jammu and Kashmir,” said Prashant Lokhande. Lokhande further said that the recovered material had been kept “securely in an open area of the police station.” The incident unfolded while police personnel were processing evidence linked to FIR 162 of 2025, in which “the Nowgam police cracked the case of a terror module” and recovered a “huge cache of explosive substances and chemicals.” (...being updated)
