Security forces recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from a natural cave in the Bari Back area of Shahdara Sharief sector in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir. The recovery was made during a joint search operation by 61 Rashtriya Rifles and 43 Rashtriya Rifles in the Thanamandi area.

Security Forces Foil Possible Threat After IED Found in Thanamandi Area
Jammu: Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district have achieved a major success. An improvised explosive device (IED) was recovered from a natural cave in the Thanamandi area late Wednesday evening. The discovery occurred during a search operation in the Bari Back area of the Shahdara Sharif sector. Security agencies are now investigating the matter and surveillance has been increased in the area.
According to officials, the operation took place in the Shahdara Sharif sector, which falls under the Thanamandi police station jurisdiction. Following reports of suspicious activity in the area, the army and security forces launched a joint search operation. The IED was recovered from inside a natural cave in the Bari Back area.
The search operation was conducted jointly by soldiers from the Army's 61 Rashtriya Rifles and 43 Rashtriya Rifles. During the operation, in addition to the IED, some food items were also recovered from inside the cave. It is suspected that the location had been used for hiding or sheltering for some time.
After the IED was discovered, police and other security agencies were immediately informed. A Bomb Disposal Squad team was then dispatched from the district police lines. The bomb disposal squad cordoned off the area and began the process of defusing the explosive.
Following the incident, security agencies have intensified a search operation throughout the area. Police have taken cognizance of the incident and have launched an investigation to determine who hid the IED in the cave and for what purpose.
