J&K Security Alert: DGP Nalin Prabhat Reviews Eid Milad, Raksha Bandhan Arrangements
Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police has intensified security preparations across the Union Territory ahead of Eid Milad-un-Nabi, special Friday prayers and Raksha Bandhan celebrations. DGP J&K Nalin Prabhat held a high-level security review meeting and directed officers to ensure foolproof arrangements, enhanced surveillance and effective crowd management during the upcoming events.
The security review has gained importance as large gatherings are expected at religious places, shrines, mosques, temples and public areas across Jammu and Kashmir. Police authorities have been instructed to maintain strict vigil, prevent any security challenge and ensure peaceful celebrations without disruption.
DGP Nalin Prabhat chaired the meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir, which was attended by senior officials from across the Union Territory. The meeting included Special DGP Coordination J&K, Inspector General of Police of Kashmir and Jammu zones, Range DIGs, district SSPs, police officials and other senior officers responsible for security management.
During the meeting, officials reviewed deployment plans, intelligence inputs, crowd regulation strategies, traffic arrangements and emergency response mechanisms required for maintaining public safety during the festivals.
The DGP directed police formations to maintain heightened alertness around major religious places, shrines and mosques where large gatherings are expected. Special focus was placed on Dargah Hazratbal and other prominent religious locations where night-long prayers and large congregations may take place during Eid Milad-un-Nabi events.
Officers were instructed to ensure adequate security deployment, strengthen coordination between different units and maintain immediate response capability in case of any unexpected situation.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police chief ordered enhanced surveillance across sensitive and vulnerable locations. Security personnel have been directed to closely monitor high-footfall areas, important installations and places where public gatherings are likely. The strategy focuses on preventive policing, real-time coordination and intelligence-based action to maintain peace and security across the Union Territory.
Along with security arrangements, the DGP also reviewed traffic management plans to ensure smooth movement of devotees and common citizens. Police officials have been directed to prepare route diversion plans, regulate traffic near religious places and ensure that large gatherings or processions do not create inconvenience for the public. Special attention will be given to crowded markets, major roads and areas witnessing increased public movement during the festive period.
The security arrangements for Raksha Bandhan celebrations were also discussed during the meeting. The DGP directed officers to make advance preparations around temples, markets and other crowded locations. Enhanced security measures and traffic regulation plans have been ordered to ensure smooth celebrations.
Police units across districts have been asked to complete all arrangements before the events and maintain coordination between field-level formations.
The latest security review reflects the administration’s focus on maintaining communal harmony, public safety and uninterrupted religious activities during the upcoming festivals. With multiple events scheduled in Jammu and Kashmir, security agencies are working on a coordinated approach involving surveillance, deployment planning, traffic management and rapid response systems.
The J&K Police has emphasized that ensuring a safe environment for citizens and devotees remains the priority during the festive season. District police teams and senior officers are monitoring security preparations and implementing the directions issued during the review meeting.
Authorities will maintain close surveillance around religious sites, crowded areas and sensitive locations until the completion of the upcoming events.
