Political Tussle Continues Over Chief Minister's Post in Karnataka
Bengaluru: Speculation surrounding the Chief Minister's post in Karnataka politics shows no signs of abating. Political activity remains high amidst discussions of a leadership change within the Congress government.
While Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is attempting to calm the situation through various meetings and informal discussions, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has once again made it clear that he intends to complete his full term.
On Friday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah attempted to put an end to the speculation surrounding a leadership change in the Karnataka Assembly. He categorically stated that he had never said he would only be Chief Minister for two and a half years. Siddaramaiah said,
“I am the Chief Minister and will remain so until the party high command gives different instructions. I have been elected for five years, and I want to complete my term.”

Siddaramaiah's statement comes after a dinner meeting of Congress MLAs considered close to him in Belagavi further fueled political discussions. The meeting was organized by senior minister Satish Jarkiholi and was attended by more than 30 Congress MLAs.
While some leaders described it as a normal social gathering, several MLAs acknowledged that the meeting also discussed party strategy, unity, and the political situation.
This development follows several meetings between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar in recent days. These meetings included discussions over breakfast at the residences of both leaders, which were held under the guidance of the Congress high command.
Political analysts believe that these meetings are an attempt to ease internal tensions and send a message of unity within the party. Halfway through the term, speculation intensifies.
On November 20, the Congress government completed half of its five-year term, leading to intensified speculation about a leadership change. According to analysts, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's strong statement is an attempt to maintain stability within the party and assure MLAs and voters of continuity in governance.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has also repeatedly downplayed discussions of a leadership change. He described recent meetings as part of regular coordination and party strategy.
According to party sources, the Congress's focus is on strengthening the government's performance and addressing issues, particularly those related to North Karnataka. Notably, Siddaramaiah is expected to address the Legislative Assembly soon, a development that is being closely watched in political circles.
