Kashmir’s Drive for Iran
Srinagar: In a remarkable show of solidarity, people across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have contributed gold, cash, and other valuables worth crores of rupees to support Iran amid the ongoing military tensions involving the United States and Israel.
The donations largely driven by members of the Shia community have been collected through door-to-door campaigns and makeshift centres across the Kashmir Valley and Kargil, with a notable surge during Eid-ul-Fitr, organisers said.
Residents from all walks of life, including women, children, students, and businessmen, have participated in the humanitarian drive. In Budgam, a young woman donated her wedding gold, saying it brought her “a sense of comfort” to contribute towards the cause.

Organisers highlighted that women have played a leading role, often parting with their gold ornaments, while children donated their Eid money. “From brides giving away their jewellery to children contributing their savings, the response has been overwhelming,” said a community organiser from north Kashmir.
Students have also made significant contributions. In one instance, university students pooled over ₹2 lakh from their savings, while several schoolchildren donated their pocket money, emphasizing the spirit of collective responsibility.
Local traders and businessmen have also stepped forward, with contributions ranging from lakhs to tens of lakhs. One businessman reportedly donated ₹25 lakh, while another contributed ₹5 lakh from his earnings, calling it a moral obligation.
The collected valuables are being converted into cash for transfer through authorised humanitarian channels, sources said.

Budgam MLA Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi also announced that he would donate his one month’s salary towards humanitarian relief efforts for the people of Iran.
“This is not just charity it is solidarity with those facing hardship,” he said, urging others to contribute towards humanitarian causes.
Organisers stated that the donation drive will continue in the coming days, reflecting what they described as a sustained and collective response from the people of the region.
