Ladakh: In the aftermath of violent protests in Leh Ladakh, authorities have initiated a significant crackdown, arresting individuals and booking Congress Councillor Phuntsog Stanzin Tsepag for his alleged involvement in the unrest.

As per the police counsellors, congress councilor, who was accused of instigating the protesters, has been booked, and other political leaders instigating the protests are likely to face action.

Four persons were killed and at least 50 were injured during violent protests demanding statehood and seeking extension of Sixth Schedule protections to Ladakh. The deaths took place when police fired at the protesters after the situation went out of control.

The violence in Ladakh on Wednesday over the demand for statehood was allegedly part of the Congress's "nefarious design" to create circumstances akin to those in Bangladesh, Nepal, and the Philippines, according to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Congress Councillor booked for inciting violence

"This man rioting in Ladakh is Phuntsog Stanzin Tsepag, Congress Councillor for Upper Leh Ward," wrote BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya on X, sharing a supposedly photo of the Congress leader. On Wednesday, a picture of a masked man with a stick in his hand went viral on social media, and the BJP claimed the photo was of him.

As per Malviya, Sonam Wangchuk urged protesters to come masked and hooded, while Smanla Norboo went so far as to threaten the stoning of the BJP office and openly provoked the masses.
