India Rejects China’s Objection To Ladakh Place Names (Img: X)
New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday reiterated that Ladakh is an integral and inalienable part of India, asserting that no amount of denial by China can alter this established fact.
The statement came after the Chinese foreign ministry objected to India’s naming of several strategic locations in the Union Territory.
Rejecting Beijing’s objections, the MEA clarified that the identification of 28 locations and geographical features was carried out in consultation with the Ladakh administration and local stakeholders.
The ministry said: "The announcement mentions that the twenty-eight (28) places/features located in the UT of Ladakh have been identified with standard place and feature names on the official map of Survey of India, and it has been done in consultation with the Union Territory of Ladakh and local stakeholders. Identifying these places formally on the Survey of India map of UT of Ladakh is aimed at facilitating their accurate recognition and better awareness among the public at large."

On October 2, India formally identified 28 strategic locations and geographical features in Ladakh on the official Survey of India map. The locations include key border friction points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), such as Gogra and Hot Spring.
The exercise, undertaken in consultation with the Ladakh administration, is aimed at improving official mapping, ensuring accurate identification of geographical features and raising public awareness about the sensitive border region.
Gogra and Hot Spring were among the locations that witnessed friction between Indian and Chinese troops during the 2020 border standoff. Both remain significant for patrolling activities along the LAC.
The standoff began on May 5, 2020, following a clash near Pangong Lake. Disengagement efforts between the two sides began in 2022.
