Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A rescue attempt turned into a devastating tragedy in Maharashtra as three members of a family died after falling from Khavda Hill in the Tisgaon area of this district on on Friday.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded after a 19-year-old youth allegedly moved close to the edge of the hill following an argument with his parents. What began as a desperate effort by the family, villagers and police to save him ended with the deaths of the son and both parents, leaving the entire area in shock.
According to police officials, the 19-year-old youth had reached the hill around 10 am after a disagreement with his parents over his demand for a new mobile phone. After reaching the hilltop, the teenager reportedly went near the edge and threatened to jump. His parents, villagers and police personnel immediately rushed to the spot and began a tense rescue effort.
For nearly three hours, everyone at the location tried to convince the youth to step away from the dangerous spot. The situation remained tense as family members made repeated attempts to calm him and bring him back safely.
During the rescue operation, the teenager’s mother repeatedly pleaded with him to move away from the edge of the hill. Villagers and locals also joined the effort, trying to persuade the youth to return to safety. Police and fire brigade teams reached the location and started taking steps to prevent any untoward incident.
Emergency personnel attempted to prepare safety arrangements near the hill area, but the steep terrain and the teenager’s position near the edge made the rescue operation extremely challenging. The tragedy became even more painful when the teenager’s mother, who witnessed her husband and son falling, also lost her balance and fell from the hill. All three family members died in the tragic sequence of events.
