Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has announced that the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) will be conducted in an online format from next year, following the recent paper leak controversy that forced the postponement of this year's examination. The move is aimed at strengthening security, improving transparency and preventing future leaks.

Committee to Oversee Online Transition

Officials said the government will constitute a dedicated committee to prepare a roadmap for shifting the TET from an offline to an online examination system. The panel will examine the technical, administrative and operational requirements to ensure the transition is implemented smoothly across the state.

According to the government, digitising the examination process is expected to reduce the risk of paper leaks while making the recruitment process more reliable and secure.

Decision Follows Paper Leak Incident

The announcement comes after the TET examination scheduled for June 28 was postponed following allegations of a question paper leak.

In response, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Thane Joint Commissioner of Police Panjabrao Ugale. The Chief Minister also directed the School Education Department and state police to take strict action against those responsible.

Three Arrested in Leak Case

The case surfaced after Bhiwandi Police arrested three suspects from Bihar and Haryana who were allegedly found carrying copies of the original TET question paper before the examination.

Police recovered mobile phones, cash, bank cards and four copies of the question paper during the operation. Officials from the Education Department later verified that the seized papers matched those prepared for the postponed examination.

The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) said it had already strengthened security measures after recent examination controversies. However, after receiving intelligence inputs about the alleged leak, authorities decided to postpone the examination to safeguard the integrity of the recruitment process. The SIT is continuing its investigation to identify the wider network involved.
