New Delhi: Meta has offered apologies to the government due to a video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi not being available on Facebook in India temporarily. The video was reportedly taken down due to some technical glitches, sources claimed.
The video was later uploaded back onto the platform as the spokesperson of Meta said that the content was reportedly taken down “in error” and once the glitch was identified, it was made available again.
The government is reportedly very serious about the issue and investigating the reasons for which the video was temporarily unavailable. Meta representatives and concerned officials would likely have to provide an explanation of the whole episode.
Moreover, it is also reported that the MeitY ministry has demanded explanations from Meta and Instagram global leadership.
The video, posted on July 23, includes the message from Prime Minister Modi to Gen Z during the student protests called by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). In his message, the Prime Minister discusses measures to address examination malpractices and leakages.
Before the restoration of the video, reports emerged that some people in India were informed that the video could not be accessed due to a takedown request under law.
The video had gained huge traction before being blocked by Facebook in the early hours of Tuesday.
Following Meta's statement regarding a technical error, attention has now turned towards content moderation processes and ensuring similar incidents are avoided in the future.
