New Delhi: Microsoft has unveiled its next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) accelerator chip, Maia 300, as the technology giant plans to expand its Azure Maia family of AI systems to multi-gigawatt deployments starting in 2027.

The announcement signals Microsoft’s efforts to reduce its dependence on companies such as Nvidia and AMD for the computing power required to run AI workloads.

Maia 300 To Power AI Inference

Alongside the planned expansion, Microsoft said Maia 300, the successor to its Maia 200 AI chip, will become the primary system for running AI inference across its products and services.

Inference refers to the process through which a trained AI model responds to questions, generates outputs and completes tasks for users.
