The protest by the MPs of the INDIA bloc has been continuing against the voter roll revision in Bihar since the commencement of the Monsoon Session on 21 July both in and outside of Parliament.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore On X

Earlier today, Congress MP Manickam Tagore took to social media X and posted a cartoon, mocking the Election Commission regarding the recent controversy over the SIR.

The cartoon portrays a man labelled "EC" dressed in uniform and shackled, holding what resembles an EVM (Electronic Voting Machine), with a 'YES SIR' bubble.

Tagore has accused the BJP-led central government of misusing the Election Commission as a political tool to disenfranchise marginalised communities, including the poor, Dalits, and backward castes. He has alleged that the names of over 56 lakh voters are being deleted from the electoral rolls in Bihar following the EC's special deep revision and termed it an attack on democracy.

Randeep Surjewala moves Adjournment of Business Notice

The party leader Randeep Surjewala moved an Adjournment of Business Notice in the Upper House of Parliament seeking a discussion on SIR. Writing to the Rajya Sabha secretary general, Surjewala said, “I give notice of my intention to move the following motion for suspension of business listed for July 29, 2025, under Rule 267 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Rajya Sabha.”

Recently the Supreme Court gave an important decision regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar voter list. Under this, the Supreme Court has once again asked the Election Commission to consider considering Aadhaar card and voter ID card as valid identity documents during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list going on in Bihar.
