New Delhi: The weather pattern across several parts of India is set to remain unsettled as the monsoon season nears its withdrawal phase. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for 20 states, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds in several regions.
According to the weather department, wind speeds in some areas may reach 70 to 75 kmph, potentially affecting daily life and travel conditions.
Meteorologists have linked the weather activity to a low-pressure area extending from south Gujarat to Jharkhand. Along with this, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is active near Sikkim, creating favourable conditions for widespread rainfall.
States in eastern India, especially Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, are likely to witness thunderstorms and lightning activity. People working outdoors, including farmers, have been advised to remain cautious during storm conditions.
Delhi is expected to witness light to moderate rainfall along with gusty winds. The national capital has been placed under a yellow alert due to the possibility of changing weather conditions.
Several parts of Uttar Pradesh, including Noida, Meerut, Lucknow, Agra, Jhansi, Prayagraj and Gorakhpur, may receive rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Bihar districts including Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur may experience heavy showers with strong wind gusts. Jharkhand regions such as Ranchi, Bokaro and Singhbhum are also likely to see moderate to heavy rainfall.
In the Himalayan states, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh remain vulnerable to weather-related challenges. Areas including Dehradun, Nainital, Rudraprayag, Shimla, Kangra and Manali may face risks linked to heavy rain, landslides and strong winds.
As monsoon begins its retreat, weather systems developing across different regions are expected to keep rainfall activity active in several parts of the country.
