Rescue teams carry out operations in flood-hit Nepal as India continues efforts to evacuate stranded citizens (Img: X)
New Delhi: Nepal is facing one of its worst natural disasters after flash floods and landslides caused widespread destruction across several regions. The disaster, triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border, unleashed massive flows of water, mud and debris, damaging roads, bridges, homes and communication networks.
The catastrophe has reportedly claimed hundreds of lives, while thousands of people remain missing as rescue agencies continue search operations in difficult terrain.

Amid the ongoing crisis, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has shared a major update on Indian nationals affected by the floods.
According to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, 84 Indians have been rescued, including 21 people from Tamil Nadu who returned to India and 63 workers associated with the Trishuli-I hydropower project.
Meanwhile, 149 Indian citizens have safely crossed into Nepal from China, while around 400 Indians are safe in China and awaiting evacuation assistance.
The MEA said nearly 320 Indians are still missing or remain uncontactable, and efforts are underway to establish contact with them.
Amid rescue efforts, authorities have issued a fresh alert over rising water levels in the Bhote Koshi River. People living along the Trishuli River stretch up to Mugling have been advised to remain alert and move to safer locations.
Nepal's disaster management authorities are closely monitoring the situation following warnings received from Chinese authorities through local officials.
India has stepped up support for Nepal by sending emergency relief material along with an 11-member specialised medical and tunnel rescue team.
The team, which arrived through the Indian Air Force's assistance mission, will help Nepalese authorities in rescue operations, especially in areas where access remains challenging.
Nepal Prime Minister Balen Shah said thousands of security personnel have been deployed for rescue work, with helicopters continuing operations to evacuate stranded people.
As rescue operations continue, India and Nepal are working together to trace missing citizens and provide emergency assistance in the flood-hit regions.
