News Delhi: Hair loss has become a widespread concern for both men and women across the world. From shampoos and oils to masks and clinical treatments, people try numerous remedies, often with limited success.

While advertisements frequently promise quick results, many products fail to deliver.

Now, researchers in Taipei have reported encouraging findings from a study on a new herbal hair growth serum, which showed noticeable improvements in hair thickness and density within 56 days.

The study suggests the formulation could offer faster results compared to conventional treatments, though experts urge caution.

What Is This New Hair Growth Formula?

According to research published on MedRxiv, the serum was developed under the leadership of Dr. Song Min Chang, lead researcher at Taiwanese biotech firm Schweizer Biotech (SBC).

Unlike typical hair oils or lotions, the formulation combines plant-based extracts with bioactive growth factors.

Key ingredients include:

Centella Asiatica (a tropical medicinal plant): The serum uses extracellular vesicles derived from this plant, which help transmit signals that support cellular activity in hair follicles.

Growth factors (IGF-1 and FGF-7): These proteins are known to help maintain active hair follicles and stimulate new cell formation.

Caffeine: Helps improve blood circulation in the scalp.

Panthenol (Vitamin B5): Supports hair hydration and strength.

What Did the Study Find?

The researchers conducted a randomized, double-blind clinical trial involving 60 adults, meaning neither participants nor researchers knew who received the actual serum and who received a placebo.

After eight weeks, participants who applied 1 millilitre of the serum nightly showed an average 25% increase in hair thickness.

Hair growth and density were measured using imaging tools on days 14, 28, 42, and 56.

The most significant improvement was observed when plant extracts and growth factors were used together, suggesting a synergistic effect.

Why Is This Study Important?

Most existing hair loss treatments, such as minoxidil, typically require several months before visible results appear. Researchers noted that this new serum appeared to activate follicle signaling more rapidly.

Important Caveats

Despite the promising findings, scientists emphasized several limitations:

The trial lasted only eight weeks

Participants were generally healthy adults, not individuals with advanced or severe pattern baldness

The study was conducted under company supervision, highlighting the need for independent verification

Experts stress that larger, longer-term studies, along with comparisons to established treatments, are essential before the serum can be considered safe and effective for widespread use.

What’s Next?

While the results point toward a potentially promising future option for hair loss treatment, researchers caution that regulatory approval and further testing are necessary before the product reaches consumers.
