New Delhi: The government has assigned the additional charge of Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog to Nidhi Chhibber following the completion of B.V.R. Subrahmanyam’s extended tenure. She will hold the position until a regular incumbent is appointed.
Chhibber is a 1994-batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre and currently serves as Director General of the Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office (DMEO) at NITI Aayog. In her present role, she oversees monitoring and evaluation of flagship government programmes, focusing on outcome-based assessments and evidence-driven policy inputs.
According to Dynamite News correspondent, she has earlier served as Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and held several key administrative assignments during her career. Chhibber holds a Master’s degree in History and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), and is proficient in English and Hindi.
Subrahmanyam, a 1987-batch retired IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, was appointed CEO of NITI Aayog on February 20, 2023. Initially appointed for two years, his term was extended by one year and concluded on February 24, 2026. No further extension has been granted.
Over a career spanning more than three decades, Subrahmanyam held senior administrative positions across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jammu & Kashmir, and also served with the World Bank.
The assignment of additional charge to Chhibber marks a transition phase at the policy think tank as the government moves towards appointing a full-time Chief Executive Officer.
