Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday inaugurated the Chrysanthemum Theme Garden, popularly known as Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood, at the Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden in Srinagar, adding a new attraction to Kashmir’s tourism offerings.
The garden has been developed to showcase chrysanthemums in full bloom during autumn and draw visitors beyond the Valley’s popular spring tulip season.
According to reports quoting Mathoora Masoom, Director of Floriculture, Gardens and Parks, Kashmir, around 3.5 lakh chrysanthemum plants have been planted this year, with more than 12 million flowers expected to bloom.

The garden features expanded flower beds, colourful floral displays, a decorated plaza, water features, pergolas, selfie points and upgraded pathways and visitor facilities. Trees such as chinar, maple and ginkgo add to the autumn landscape.
The flowering season is expected to continue until December 5 or 6, depending on weather conditions, giving residents and tourists several weeks to enjoy the Valley’s autumn colours.
The extended blooming period is expected to make the garden an attraction for visitors at a time when many seasonal flower displays have ended.
The initiative aims to complement Kashmir’s established spring attractions with a dedicated destination for autumn tourism. The Floriculture Department hopes the garden will draw more visitors during the season while highlighting the region’s horticultural potential.
The new attraction is part of broader efforts to diversify Kashmir’s tourism offerings and encourage tourists to explore the Valley throughout the year.
