New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday reviewed ongoing development projects, winter preparedness and the delivery of essential services in Anantnag, directing departments to speed up work and address public grievances without delay.

The review covered healthcare, education, roads, infrastructure, electricity, rural development, youth welfare and food and civil supplies. Abdullah stressed the need for better coordination among departments, effective implementation of government schemes and timely completion of projects to ensure development benefits reach people at the grassroots level.

Winter preparedness and essential supplies

With harsh weather conditions approaching, the Chief Minister asked departments to maintain the pace of development work before winter disrupts construction, transport and the movement of essential goods.

He directed the administration to ensure adequate stocks of essential commodities, particularly liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), in the months leading up to winter. The aim is to prevent shortages and inconvenience for consumers when adverse weather affects transport links and supply chains.

Several areas of Jammu and Kashmir are vulnerable to severe winter conditions, making advance planning and coordination among departments and agencies crucial to maintaining uninterrupted supplies.

Push to accelerate development projects

Abdullah also called for faster execution of industrial estate development and ongoing infrastructure projects. He instructed officials to complete works sanctioned under various government schemes within the prescribed timelines.

The Chief Minister emphasised the need to achieve satisfactory physical and financial progress under schemes such as the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI). He also stressed the effective utilisation of allocated funds to ensure that projects move forward without unnecessary delays.

Departments were asked to act on pending issues within specified timeframes and maintain accountability in implementing development initiatives.

Mission YUVA and employment generation

Youth employment and entrepreneurship featured prominently in the review. Abdullah directed banks to streamline the disbursement of funds to eligible beneficiaries under Mission YUVA, a scheme aimed at promoting self-employment among young people in Jammu and Kashmir.

Timely processing of applications and release of approved funds are important for young entrepreneurs seeking bank loans to establish their businesses. The directions are intended to reduce delays and help eligible beneficiaries pursue self-employment opportunities.

Better delivery of public services

The Chief Minister also called for improvements in social welfare assistance and public service delivery. He instructed departments to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive assistance on time and that public grievances are addressed promptly.
