New Delhi: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday said that the country’s armed forces remain on high alert and are actively preparing for a possible renewed phase of Operation Sindoor, signalling continued military readiness despite a temporary pause in hostilities.

Speaking after reviewing the Passing Out Parade at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, he said that the operation, launched in response to past terror attacks, has not been concluded and continues in a paused state.

“Operation Sindoor Still Continuing”

General Dwivedi stated that the situation reflects only a temporary cessation of hostilities and not a formal end to operations. He added that the Army, along with the Navy and Air Force, is preparing for any potential escalation.

He also referred to the possibility of what he called “Operation Sindoor 2.0,” stressing that the armed forces are maintaining full operational readiness.

Focus on Joint Military Strength

The Army Chief highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination among the three services. He said future warfare would require deeper integration and faster decision-making across all branches of the armed forces.

According to him, modern conflicts will extend beyond traditional land-based battles and will involve multiple domains including cyber, space, electromagnetic and cognitive warfare.

Technology and Modern Warfare

General Dwivedi underlined the growing role of technology in defence operations. He noted that artificial intelligence, advanced surveillance systems and drone capabilities are becoming essential tools in modern military strategy.

He also pointed out that today’s battlefield environment is highly transparent, requiring careful planning and protection of both troops and civilian populations.

Information Warfare and National Unity

The Army Chief stressed the importance of information warfare, saying success depends on public trust and unified national support. He added that coordinated communication and confidence among stakeholders are crucial during conflict situations.

Theatre Command Reforms and Future Structure

On long-term military reforms, General Dwivedi said the process of establishing theatre commands is progressing as planned. A detailed proposal has already been submitted for review and is under consideration by defence authorities.

He explained that the restructuring will allow service chiefs to focus on force readiness, while operational control will be handled by theatre commanders.

NDA Passing Out Parade Highlights

The remarks were made during a landmark ceremony at the NDA, where more than 350 cadets graduated, including 18 women cadets. The event also featured a flypast by fighter jets and helicopters, showcasing India’s defence capabilities.

The Army Chief, an alumnus of the academy, praised the new cadets and expressed confidence in the future leadership of the armed forces.
