New Delhi: The Opposition on Monday has decided to submit a notice for impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of 'vote chori' and alleged irregularities in Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar.

The decision was reportedly taken at a meeting of Opposition leaders chaired by LoP in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.

About The Matter

On 1 August a draft voter list for Bihar was made public by the Election Commission of India (ECI). This list was discovered to be missing 6.5 million names.

Following a special thorough review voters who were deceased duplicated or had moved away had their names removed. This is a planned political move according to the opposition rather than merely a routine technical procedure.

In order to give the ruling party an advantage in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections they claim that specific communities and groups were singled out and had their names removed.
