Parliament: Day 13 Also Washout

The Monsoon Session has just 6 working days left; there is no indication so far of the present deadlock being resolved and normalcy restored in Parliament. For the 13th day today, the Opposition continued its protest and disturbed the proceedings while the government managed to pass the routine legislative bills without any discussion.

New Delhi: Parliament on day 13 also witnessed another stormy day as the opposition continued its protests over the Ram temple donation theft and alleged use of pellet guns and police action against students during Jantar Mantar protest. Today also a virtual washout, though government managed to push the bills in the din and bustle without any discussion.

Before the proceedings began this morning, opposition MPs staged a protest outside the complex and demanded a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah on the issue of police action and also the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the house.

When the House assembled, Speaker Om Birla tried to convince the Opposition to resume normal proceedings but, having seen the mood of the MPs, adjourned the Lok Sabha to 2 pm. After lunch also, the same scene continued, but the government passed the Bankers' Book Evidence Bill,2026, without any discussion within 10 minutes, and adjourned the House for tomorrow.

In the Rajya Sabha also, it is almost the same situation, but the Chairman Radhakrishnan tried to run the House, but adjourned till noon and again to 2 pm. However, after lunch, Deputy Chairman Harivansh took up the Supreme Court(number of judges)Amendment Bill, which was passed by the Lok Sabha. Though the opposition continued its protest, the chair continued the discussion with the NDA members and adjourned.

The Parliament session began on 20th July, but virtually there was no Question Hour in both the Houses nor any serious discussion on any burning issues as there was no meeting ground between the opposition and government. The opposition continued its protest, and the government managed the legislative business within minutes without any discussion.
