Opposition protest in Parliament
New Delhi: Even as the Monsoon Session of Parliament comes to an end tomorrow, the deadlock between the government and the opposition over the demand of Home Minister Amit Shah's statement on students protest remains unresolved. For 18 consecutive days, both the Houses did not take up the Question Hour, due to the Opposition protest. NEET paper leak and Ram temple donation theft dominated the proceedings. For 18 days, the Home Minister did not attend either of the House.
Towards the end, the government made a special effort to convince the Opposition, with Speaker Om Birla and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijuju making several appeals to the Opposition to break the deadlock. The Home Minister today urged the Speaker to consult the Opposition.
The mood in the Opposition was disappointing as the government took nearly three weeks to listen to their voice. They felt that Home Minister did not visit the Parliament for the last 18 days, when the Opposition wanted him to remain present in the House. The negotiation failed as the Oppsoiton rejected it as too late and questioned what was he doing for the last three weeks.
Two bills were passed today amidst shouting and protests from the Opposition. The Lok Sabha passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Bill 2026 without any discussion with just voice vote after it was tabled by Minister G Kishan Reddy. Similarly, in the Rajya Sabha also, the National Co-operative Devlopment Corporation Bill 2026 was passed.
Since the start of the Monsoon Session on July 20,Parliament has been witnessing a deadlock for the 18th day as the opposition parties continued to protest over NEET paper leak and alleged police action excesses against student protestors in delhi,demanding a statement from Amit Shah.
It was a virtual washout of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Half a dozen Bills were passed without any discussion or debate with just voice vote when the Opposition was protesting against NEET paper leak and Ram temple donation theft.
