Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at an event in Guwahati, reflected emotionally on the remarkable transformation of Assam.

He said the state has moved from an era marked by unrest, instability, and violence to a phase where culture, music, and celebration are taking center stage. According to the Prime Minister, the changes witnessed in Assam are a source of pride not only for the state but for the entire nation.

From Violence and Curfews to Culture and Celebration

PM Modi recalled how Assam was once known for frequent bloodshed, gunfire, and prolonged curfews. In contrast, he noted that today the same regions resonate with cultural performances such as Bagurumba dance, and the soothing sounds of traditional instruments like Kham and Sifung.

What was once silence imposed by fear has now been replaced by music, art, and joy. He described this transformation as deeply emotional, stating that the shift from instability to cultural vibrancy symbolizes Assam’s progress and renewed confidence. The Prime Minister emphasized that such a change reflects the strength of peace and inclusive development.

Significance of the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord

Referring to the Bodo Peace Accord of 2020, PM Modi said the agreement brought an end to decades of conflict in the region. He explained that the accord restored trust among communities and encouraged thousands of young people to abandon violence and rejoin the mainstream.

He highlighted how talented Bodo youth are now becoming cultural ambassadors of Assam and excelling in various fields, including sports. According to him, the peace agreement laid the foundation for social harmony and opened new avenues for growth and opportunities.

During his speech, PM Modi also criticized the Congress party, accusing it of opposing Assam’s cultural pride and development. He questioned why certain political forces feel uncomfortable when Assam’s heritage and identity are celebrated.

The Prime Minister alleged that Congress had earlier opposed honoring legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika with the Bharat Ratna. He further accused a Congress minister from Karnataka of opposing the establishment of a semiconductor unit in Assam, suggesting that such actions reflect resistance to the state’s progress.

PM Modi concluded by stating that Assam’s rising confidence, economic growth, and development are adding new strength to India’s overall growth story. He said Assam is rapidly emerging as one of the country’s fast-growing states, with its economy gaining momentum.

He emphasized that Bodoland and its people are playing a crucial role in this transformation, contributing significantly to Assam’s development and national progress.
