New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated two new corridors of the Delhi Metro, marking a significant step in expanding the capital’s public transport network. Along with the inauguration, he also laid the foundation stones for several infrastructure projects worth about ₹33,500 crore.
Officials said the new metro stretches will improve connectivity across several parts of the national capital, particularly between north-east and north-west Delhi.
Pink Line Extension Completes Capital’s Ring Metro
One of the key projects inaugurated is the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Delhi Metro Pink Line. With this addition, the Pink Line now extends to 71.56 kilometres, making it the country’s first fully operational “ring metro” that encircles large parts of Delhi.

The project also features significant engineering infrastructure, including a new bridge across the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct that carries both a metro track and a road flyover.
Magenta Line Extension Improves North Delhi Connectivity
The prime minister also inaugurated the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park stretch of the Delhi Metro Magenta Line. With this extension, the Magenta Line now stretches to nearly 49 kilometres.
The corridor includes seven elevated stations such as Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura–Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor and Bhalswa. The new section forms part of the broader Botanical Garden–Krishna Park Extension route.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the metro expansion will help improve travel efficiency and strengthen public transport links across the city.
Foundation Stone for New Phase 5 Metro Corridors
In addition to the inaugurated sections, the prime minister laid the foundation stone for three new metro corridors under Phase 5(A).
These include a 9.9-kilometre underground Central Vista corridor connecting Ramakrishna Ashram Marg and Indraprastha, a 2.26-kilometre underground extension of the Golden Line between Aerocity and Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1, and a 3.9-kilometre elevated extension from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.

Redevelopment Projects Also Announced
Apart from metro expansion, the government also launched redevelopment works worth around ₹15,200 crore under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) scheme.
Authorities say the combined infrastructure push aims to modernise Delhi’s transport network while improving urban living facilities across the national capital.
