New Delhi: In an era where political communication has shifted from traditional rallies and public meetings to digital platforms, the government is focusing on strengthening its presence on social media.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advised his ministers to become more active on major social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X (formerly Twitter), with the aim of improving direct communication with the younger generation.
According to sources, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) prepared a detailed report assessing ministers’ social media activity. The report was reportedly shared with ministers in sealed envelopes during the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.
The assessment included ministers’ posts, responses on important issues and their overall engagement on social media platforms between May 1 and August 15.
The report also included rankings based on public response and engagement levels on their posts.
Sources said the report provided a comparative analysis, highlighting how ministers performed against opposition leaders and political rivals on digital platforms.
Prime Minister Modi reportedly emphasized that ministers should take the feedback seriously and understand the importance of social media in today’s political landscape.
The Prime Minister highlighted that young people are highly active online and receive information directly through social media platforms.
He stressed that ministers must use these platforms to communicate government policies, share accurate information and counter misleading narratives.
According to the government’s view, ministers being public representatives have greater credibility, making their participation in online discussions important.
Earlier too, Prime Minister Modi had encouraged ministers to increase their presence on platforms like Instagram to connect with young audiences.
The Prime Minister himself has frequently used social media platforms to communicate with citizens, especially younger generations, and promote government initiatives.
