PM Modi targets Rahul Gandhi, slams ‘pessimists’ for mocking Atmanirbhar Bharat

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party, accusing them of mocking the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” campaign and promoting negativity.

Addressing a public rally in Surat, Gujarat, PM Modi said there are “pessimists” in the country who constantly belittle India’s push for self-reliance.

“There are some pessimists in the country today who constantly mock the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign. They consistently belittle this resolve of the nation,” Modi said.

‘Dependent nations cannot fully develop’

Without directly naming Rahul Gandhi initially, the Prime Minister said such leaders forget that countries dependent on others can never achieve true development.

“These are the people who have always kept India dependent on other nations. A country dependent on others can never attain the heights of development it truly deserves,” he added.

PM Modi also accused the Congress of trying to gain political advantage by spreading “chaos and uncertainty” over the past 12 years.

The Prime Minister claimed the Congress has suffered repeated electoral setbacks because people are frustrated with its governance.

He cited Congress defeats in local body elections in states like Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, while also claiming there is growing resentment against the Congress government in Karnataka.

“There is immense resentment among the people of Karnataka regarding the Congress government, and that is precisely why the party had to change its Chief Minister there,” Modi said.

PM highlights global crises

Speaking about global challenges, Modi said the world is passing through a “decade of disasters,” citing COVID-19, wars and the global energy crisis.

Despite international instability, he said India has managed to remain resilient due to the collective efforts of 140 crore Indians. Earlier in the day, PM Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects worth around ₹18,800 crore in Surat.
