Surat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) electoral success reflects the country’s confidence in its development-focused governance model. Speaking at an event in Surat, he said voters have repeatedly supported the party due to its emphasis on growth and policy-driven administration.

‘Trust Built on Development,’ Says PM

PM Modi stated that the public mandate received by the BJP in recent elections is rooted in its development agenda. He said the government continues to prioritise national progress, which, according to him, has strengthened public trust in the party.

He also referred to the party’s performance in Bengal, Assam and Puducherry, describing the results as a strong endorsement from voters.

Bengal Election Win Draws Global Attention

Highlighting his recent five-nation tour, which included visits to the UAE, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy, the Prime Minister said that the West Bengal election outcome was widely discussed during his diplomatic engagements abroad.

He noted that international conversations frequently focused on Bengal’s political developments, indicating significant global interest in India’s electoral outcomes.

Diplomatic Tour and International Engagements

During the tour, India signed agreements related to energy cooperation, defence partnerships and critical minerals. PM Modi said these engagements reflected India’s growing global role and strengthened bilateral ties with multiple countries.

Several world leaders reportedly congratulated him on the BJP’s electoral performance in Bengal, where the party secured a decisive victory by winning 207 seats in the 294-member assembly, ending a 15-year tenure of the Trinamool Congress.

International Reactions and Commentary

Former Norwegian diplomat Erik Solheim also praised the electoral outcome during PM Modi’s visit to Norway, saying it was time for the West to better understand Indian democracy. He argued that India’s democratic system is rooted in its own historical and cultural framework.

PM Modi also referred to criticism from certain Western media outlets, stating that India’s democratic model is often misrepresented. He asserted that India remains one of the strongest democracies globally, both in scale and substance.
