PM Modi to holds key talks with Oman’s Sultan today to boost strategic ties

Muscat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold comprehensive bilateral talks with Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq on Thursday. These discussions will review the entire spectrum of India-Oman relations. This meeting is considered crucial in further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Focus on Trade, Energy and Security

The discussions between Prime Minister Modi and Sultan Haitham will cover key areas such as trade and investment, energy cooperation, defense and security, technology, agriculture, and cultural exchange. In addition, the two leaders will also share their views on regional and global issues.

Addressing the India-Oman Business Forum

Prime Minister Modi will also participate in a business forum where he will address business leaders from both countries. The forum aims to promote commercial cooperation and investment partnerships. This is expected to give a new impetus to economic relations between India and Oman.

Grand Welcome in Muscat

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi arrived in Muscat, where he was warmly welcomed at the airport by Oman's Deputy Prime Minister (for Defence Affairs) Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said. The Prime Minister was also accorded a guard of honor. The two leaders greeted each other cordially.

Interaction with the Indian Community

Upon arriving at his hotel in Muscat, Prime Minister Modi was enthusiastically welcomed by the Indian community. Hundreds of people waved Indian flags and chanted slogans like "Modi Modi," "Bharat Mata Ki Jai," and "Vande Mataram." The Prime Minister interacted with the Indian diaspora and enjoyed cultural performances.

Strengthening the Strategic Partnership

This is Prime Minister Modi's second visit to Oman, which reflects the depth of the India-Oman strategic partnership. This visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman. Earlier, in December 2023, the Sultan of Oman had paid a state visit to India.

Historical Ties and Future Direction

Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Arun Kumar Chatterjee stated that India and Oman's relations are based on centuries-old maritime trade and people-to-people contacts. This visit will prove to be instrumental in giving new direction and impetus to India-Oman cooperation in the coming years.
