Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Assam for two days starting December 20 to inaugurate and dedicate several major development projects in the state. The visit reflects the central government’s focus on infrastructure, industrial development, and honoring the legacy of Assam’s prominent leaders.

Inauguration of Guwahati Airport Terminal

On December 20, PM Modi will inaugurate the new terminal building at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. Built at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore, the terminal has been designed with a modern look and enhanced facilities to improve passenger experience. An 80-foot statue of Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi will also be unveiled at the airport premises, paying tribute to the state’s revered leader. The Chief Minister highlighted plans to construct an elevated corridor along the airport road to enhance connectivity and aesthetics between the airport and Jalukbari.

Interaction with Party Workers

After the airport inauguration, the Prime Minister will interact with BJP party workers at the state office in Guwahati, strengthening engagement with local leadership and discussing developmental priorities.

Visit to Brahmaputra River Terminal and Student Interaction

On December 21, PM Modi will visit the river terminal on the Brahmaputra in Guwahati around 8 am and board the Charaideo vessel. During the visit, he will participate in the ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ program with around 25-30 students, sharing insights and guidance on education, leadership, and personal development.

Paying Tribute to Assam Movement Martyrs

PM Modi will also pay homage to the 855 martyrs of the Assam Movement at Swahid Smarak in Boragaon. This tribute highlights the government’s recognition of the sacrifices made during the movement and the historical significance of Assam’s struggle for identity and rights.

Laying Foundation for Namrup-IV Ammonia-Urea Project

Later on December 21, the Prime Minister will travel to Dibrugarh to lay the foundation stone of the Namrup-IV Ammonia-Urea project. The new brownfield ammonia-urea complex will be developed at the existing Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited premises with an estimated investment of Rs 10,000 crore. Once operational, the plant is expected to produce 12 lakh metric tonnes of urea annually, meeting domestic demand and contributing to exports. The Chief Minister emphasized that this project marks a new phase of industrialization in Assam, fostering economic growth and employment opportunities.

The Prime Minister’s visit underlines the central government’s focus on infrastructure modernization, industrial expansion, and educational initiatives. The inauguration of the modern airport terminal, unveiling of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi statue, and commencement of the Namrup-IV project collectively signal a significant boost to Assam’s development trajectory.
