New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 76 on Thursday, with President Droupadi Murmu, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union ministers and other BJP leaders extending birthday wishes and highlighting his 25 years in public service.
President Droupadi Murmu, in a post on X, said Modi had set “many new benchmarks of good governance” during his 25 years as chief minister and prime minister. She said his tenure had given “unprecedented momentum and a new direction” to inclusive development.
Murmu said India was moving towards modern progress while retaining a strong sense of cultural pride. She also said people were witnessing harmony between heritage and development. The President wished Modi good health and a long life so that he could continue contributing to public service and nation-building.
Yogi Adityanath described Modi as the “world's most popular leader” and the architect of “New India”. In his X post, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister said Modi’s commitment to “Nation First” and public welfare remained an inspiration for achieving the goal of a “Developed India”.
Adityanath said that under Modi’s leadership, India was setting new benchmarks in self-reliance, governance, cultural renaissance and global prestige. He also wished the prime minister good health and a long life.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also greeted Modi and highlighted his 25 years in public life. Naidu described Modi’s leadership as "truly historic", referring to his journey from serving as Gujarat chief minister to becoming prime minister.
"Warmest birthday greetings to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. As India's longest-serving democratically elected Prime Minister, your leadership has been truly historic. As you mark 25 exemplary years of public service, your journey from leading Gujarat as Chief Minister to guiding the nation as Prime Minister has given new momentum to India's growth story," Naidu said in a post on 'X'.
Naidu added that Modi’s vision of "Seva, Sankalp and Sushasan" continued to inspire people across the country. He also prayed to Lord Venkateswara for the prime minister’s long, healthy and prosperous life in the service of the nation.
Naidu and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde are scheduled to attend bike rallies in Varanasi to mark Modi’s birthday and his 25 years in public life.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also greeted Modi on his birthday. In a post on X, Gandhi wrote, "Happy birthday to PM Narendra Modi ji. Wishing you good health and a long life."
Union minister Sukanta Majumdar also greeted Modi during an interaction in Kolkata. He said Modi’s contribution should be assessed not only by the length of his public service but also by how he had steered the country forward.
Majumdar claimed that 25 crore people had been lifted out of multidimensional poverty under Modi’s leadership, citing the World Bank. He also pointed to India’s economic growth, saying GDP growth was around 7.8 to 8 per cent despite global conflicts and the economic impact of wars.
Meanwhile, the BJP is set to launch the ‘Seva Sankalp’ campaign across states to mark Modi’s birthday. Party leaders and workers are expected to participate in public service and welfare-related activities as part of the celebrations.
